Preventing and responding to child abuse and neglect requires seamless collaboration from all professionals who work with children and families. However, professionals rarely learn together at university, meaning they do not graduate with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to effectively work together to improve outcomes for children. Our recently published manuscript highlighted how there are few examples of interprofessional education for health and allied health professionals undertaking their initial (preservice) qualification that prepare them for collaborative working in child protection. The examples of educational interventions that do exist lack a robust evidence base, are poorly evaluated and not replicated beyond a single site. Further work is needed to develop and evaluate effective educational interventions that are able to equip future professionals for their essential work with children and families.
