In our most recent project, our research team explored priorities for providing non-judgemental therapeutic care for mothers who are experiencing challenges that impact their parenting. We partnered with 10 mothers and 11 professionals who support mothers to identify key actions that are needed to better support mothers who are needing help. Our work was funded by the Women's Health Research and Translation Network Early and Mid Career Researcher Award 2023,.

We identified six key actions which are:

  1. Make it easier for families to navigate the system

  2. Look for ways to support families on waiting lists

  3. Provide opportunities for early support as soon as difficulties arise

  4. Provide flexible support that fits the unique needs of mothers

  5. Equip professionals with knowledge, support and strategies to provide effective help

  6. Build strategies to improve timely and consistent communication between professionals and mothers

Our complete research action plan is available as a series of infographics.
